Usually the aims when in-painting/retouching /restoring losses are that the restoration should be invisible and reversible.

In this process various media are mixed with dry pigments (colours). Aldehyde, acrylic and ketone resins and egg tempera are amongst some of the media used. 

These media have also been selected for conservation because they are known to darken less than a traditional medium like oil.
